Jerome, Arizona

Highway 89A is a scenic byway from Flagstaff down to Jerome, and it is beautiful. A little while after leaving Flagstaff, it drops into Oak Canyon in which it stays all the way to Sedona. Oak Creek gives the canyon it's name, or vice versa, and it, too, is a beautiful stream. Lots of recreation spots, including swimming holes with bikini clad lasses accompanied by board shorts wearing lads. The road has a 40 mph speed limit, which was perfect for my heavy bike and all the curves.
The road on to Jerome was wide and nice. Jerome sits on a hillside. A former mining town, or still a mining town, it has a rich and visible history. The mining efforts are still very apparent.
In an embarrassing moment, I discovered I'm a day off in my calculations, and have to rush now to get to Mormon Lake today. So off I go!

  1. Spent many a weekend riding the "slide rock" in Oak Creek Canyon long ago when Sedona was a motel and a two pump gas station with a few cabins sprinkled around. -Sean
