Medical Advice

The Green Apple Quickstep has me up and riding the Porcelain Pony (I must use euphemisms because two young people read the blog). My temperature is 100.1 orally at 3:00 am, and I normally run about .5-1 degree cooler than 98.6.

I have 30 500mg Cipro with me. On the label is a warning to avoid prolonged or excessive exposure to direct or artificial sunlight.

Do I take the Cipro?  Or do I just take lomotil for the diarrhea?  I'm in a dilemma.

  1. Even though I live with a nurse, I am not a medical professional, but I say go for the Cipro. It's time to kill whatever is making you sick. Staying out of direct sunlight might be a challenge though. I was given Cipro and Lomotil when I went to Sarajevo, and was told if it got worse than nausea and the diarrhea didn't stop, start taking Cipro. (Betsy)

  2. I would try to get rid of what is making you sick too. Can you stay put a day or two?

  3. Take the Cipro - for at least two or three days. Rehydration is also crucial. If there is Gatorade or some facsimile available, make use of it. As long as your diarrhea is not bloody, the lomotil should also be OK, but the Cipro is most likely what you need. As above, rest is also recommended (and I am a doctor - albeit not an infectious disease specialist!)

3 days minimum. If it's really bad 7-14. See the chart. You decide how acute it is I guess. Not my favorite anti-bacterial med. But it's the drug of choice in central asia.
